In theory, I would tend to agree with you. Erlich was proven wrong. However... I fear we may have worldwide food shortages thanks to government policies.
Modern techniques rely on fertilizers that we are now having shortages of.
Petroleum products are used to make fertilizer and with the rise in oil prices... many farmers can't afford fertilizer or fuel for tractors.
On the other side of the coin - we recently had the Netherlands passing a law that would shut down a large number of farms and ranches. Since they export more food than any other country than the United States...
To some extent, the predicted food shortages were quite avoidable.
