Iranian Woman Dies For Not “Correctly” Wearing Hijab
Iranian women burn their hijabs in protest
I have Muslim friends. Some of them wear the hijab, some do not. The Koran does tell women to cover their heads, in Chapter 33, verse 60. The reason given for them to do so — so they will not be molested. However, under Islamic law — there is no punishment for a woman who does not wear a veil or hijab.
According to Islamic law, a man has no jurisdiction in forcing a woman to do so unless he has some authority over her — so a father can require it of a daughter and a husband or brother can request it of a wife or sister. However, no where does it say that if a woman does not wear the veil, a man can beat her.
Unfortunately, in Iran, however, Mahsa Amini was beaten to death because she wore her hijab “incorrectly”. She died on Friday after being rushed to the hospital. None of that is advocated by the Koran.
She had been visiting Tehran with family when the morality police stopped her and took her into custody. Two days later she was dead.
