It’s OK to tell men what you want for Christmas and birthdays

Why make your life harder than it has to be?

I’m a really lucky woman. One of my best friends is a guy who gives great presents.

This year I opened my gifts on Christmas Eve, after the special service at my church. It seemed appropriate. Mom, myself, and a friend enjoyed the Christmas carols and candle-lighting ceremony and then after we drank mulled wine, ate stollen, and opened presents.

The wrapping paper was set aside as the cat’s gift.

I used to buy her catnip toys and such, but turns out, she prefers piles of discarded paper. So I just make sure to double or triple wrap gifts and she’s quite content.

Among the gifts I got this year were several presents from my best bud. He truly enjoys giving gifts and has a knack for it. He always sends a variety, including at least one gag gift to make me laugh. This is important, as playful humor is a huge part of our friendship.

I confess I’m not always as good at giving him gifts, but sometimes I rise to the occasion. I’ve made him a painting of his basset hound, and a hand-knit scarf I designed with a fractal border and a Fibonacci rib. Since my friend is a geek who loves his dogs, both these gifts were big hits.
