it's true. and truckers are paying a lot more for diesel. like 50% more from what a friend of mine in the industry told me. they pass those costs on to the rest of us.

This might mean that their gross profits look higher - but the key figure to look at is net profits. Supply/demand is also in play.

When the governments in other countries have put price controls in place the result has tended to be lots of shortages and a black market which of course not everyone can access.

Unless there is a monopoly, suppliers have to compete with each other so that puts a governor on excess profits. If there is a monopoly or price-fixing situation involved, then the government does need to get involved.
