I’ve Started To Paint Again
Baby steps, but I’m doing it again
It’s been two years since I last painted.
I was diagnosed with a lemon-sized brain tumor in April of 2021. It was surgically removed, which was followed up with radiation therapy.
That got rid of the cancer but left behind some brain damage.
The worst of it was that I couldn’t move one of my legs. However, that came back pretty quick after the surgery. However, there were other issues that cropped up, particularly after the radiation.
I lost some short term memories.
I had issues focusing.
And I lost the use of my hands.
I could no longer write, for example. I would type with just one hand, which was not very satisfying. And I could no longer paint.
About a year ago, I started forcing myself to exercise my hands.
I started off knitting with large needles. Then I played in my garden. Little by little, I regained manual skills. I was able to sign my own name again, print my name carefully, type, play a video game.
