Jesus came for the broken
If you want to love Him, you will too
Christmas is here. For those of us who call ourselves Christian, this is a profound time of the year. It’s a time of celebration and also a time for reflection.
(Yes, I know. He probably wasn’t born on December 25th. That’s OK. That’s when we celebrate His birth. There is a reason this date was chosen, and it was in keeping with Roman customs of the time.)
Who was Jesus? He was God born as man. He came to earth for those who were broken. His life was given to them.
He was not a warrior like Muhammad, who led his followers to victory in battle and rewarded them with plunder and women. Some scholars say that this was the type of Messiah the Jews were expecting, a war leader, a man of action, someone who could break the power of their oppressors by leading them as King David had. After all, Jesus came from the line of David.
He was also not a sage like the Buddha, who renounced the world.
Jesus did occasionally take a break from the daily grind. He went into the wilderness at one point for 40 days. But He always came back, and rolled up His sleeves, and pitched in — whether it was creating wine at a wedding or making food to feed a horde of hungry that came to hear Him speak.
