I think people have been giving French women special status now for hundreds of years? I have read travelogues from a couple of centuries back and even then they talked about them. For me, one of the things I appreciate about them (at least from my encounters) — they are not afraid of being intellectuals.

BTW, I am very sorry about what happened to the Notre Dame. It made me very sad to see.
