Losing weight for your health
It’s not about self-worth or beauty
I think women of all weights are beautiful. Let’s just state that up front.
You don’t need to be thin to be lovely. This article is not about fat-shaming. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and so does good health. There are many people who are considered “fat” by society today that are very healthy, and there are slender people who are not.
That being said, excess weight can cause health issues.
Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke
For example, statistically, being overweight increases your chances of getting some types of cancer.
Since one of the cancers that is affected by excess weight is breast cancer… was my excess weight a factor in my disease? It might have been. This is not a reason to blame myself. But it does motivate me to try to lose some of the excess pounds I still carry.
Diabetes is also more likely if you are overweight. You are also at greater risk for heart disease and stroke if you carry excess pounds.
Slightly overweight Danes live longer
Does this mean you have to be thin to be healthy?
