Making My Own Electrolyte Drink

It’s easy and saves me money

A few weeks ago I was having issues where I would stand up and feel dizzy. My blood pressure was really low.

My physical therapist told me I wasn’t getting enough water, which was probably true. Chemotherapy and the other treatments I receive often cause digestive upsets and other issues that make it hard for me to get enough water.

However, when you are drinking a lot of water, if you don’t balance out the electrolytes, it can lead to the types of problems I was experiencing. And that was actually the reason I kept having dizzy spells even after I upp’ed my water intake.

The reason I figured this out? My mother told me to start adding a little salt into my water!

She had overheard my conversations with my PT for a couple of weeks when she decided to step in and tell me what to do.

“You can add lemon juice to the water, too,” she said. “It’s healthy and it tastes good.”

So I started to do that and noticed that it helped.

I also tried a couple of electrolyte drinks to see if any of them might work better. It turns out that having a blend of electrolytes fixed the problem. However, energy drinks can be expensive, and I’m on a tight budget.
