People are not just suffering physical sickness. They are also dealing with emotional pain.

A lot of the news focuses on the stock market crashing. I get it. It’s dramatic and easy to cover.

But what about people who work in fast food restaurants, or in retail? What about people who work minimum wage jobs to support their families? What are they dealing with?

The thing is that we want people to self-quarantine. This is a good thing. It protects those in high-risk groups and will help “flatten the curve”. By allowing infections to more gradually spread through society, it gives our hospitals a fighting chance to treat everyone who needs help.

Hopefully this is not the only strategy being utilized. But it’s a necessary one.

Unfortunately, many minimum wage workers face a harsh reality. They don’t have paid sick leave. So, if they do the right thing and self-quarantine when they feel sick, their income is gone. Many of these people are one paycheck away from homelessness.

This is why I think people like Mitt Romney are now taking a page out of Andrew Yang’s book, and calling for the government to immediately send out $1000 to each…
