Most Muslims are Kind People
At least the ones I’ve known
One of my best friends grew up as a Muslim. He and I have been friends since 1989. He is agnostic these days. He drinks alcohol, eats non-halal meat, always has at least one dog, and does not attend a mosque or fast for Ramadan. He does avoid pork, however. I don’t really get why bacon is where he draws the line, but religion seems to come with inconsistency.
I say this as a Christian who perceives that my own faith has its own issues.
One thing that I’ve found, though, is that most of the Muslims I’ve met are decent people.
My currently agnostic friend who grew up as a Muslim is one of the kindest people I know. He is very emotionally aware and empathic.
Other Muslims I’ve met have been helpful and generous. Many are very educated and smart. Most Muslims are respectful of the elderly.
Of course, there are cultural issues that many Americans find distasteful.
For example — in Islam, polygamy is allowed. How often does it happen, however? A man is only supposed to have multiple wives if he can treat all equally.
