Mother’s Day and Pentecost

They both fall on the same day this year

Mom and I. She knit the dress I am wearing.

It’s Mothers’ Day.

This is a relatively new American holiday. Anna Jarvis held a small service for her mother on May 12, 1907. A few years later, in 1914, President Wilson made it a national holiday.

My mother’s birthday falls in May, so that is when we had our major celebration. On Mother’s Day itself we’ll probably just spend time together. I might make her a meal she’ll like and play cards or work on a puzzle with her.

I guess, for me, every day should actually be Mother’s Day. They gave birth to us and cared for us when we were vulnerable, I think they deserve more than one day a year. I think we should show them appreciation on a regular basis, even if it’s just a hug or letting them beat you at cards (two things I do for my mother).

This meme from Facebook reminds us why we should appreciate our mothers.

Given how painful childbirth can be, why do women have children? Some women have many children voluntarily. I’ve known several ladies in my generation who have had 4 or more children.
