I love my boyfriend. I trust him. I think, if I were to get married, he’d be the guy. He’s important to me, and we are fairly compatible though not perfectly so. He’s also younger than I am. He wants to marry me.

This is a bit astonishing and yet not.

From a physical perspective, I’m not a great catch. Let’s be honest.

I have been diagnosed with cancer three times. This latest round included metastatic brain, lung, and liver cancer. I’ve had a mastectomy and now, thanks to brain radiation, I’m almost bald. Plus I’m overweight.

Yet my smart, funny, kind, generous boyfriend wants to marry me.

I told him we need to wait.

Because marriage is a huge commitment.

I know he wants to take care of me. He’s an honorable man. He puts my needs first. He is kind to my mother and is taking care of my dog until I can again. I get along with his parents. They are nice people.

But here’s the thing.

What if I die? Originally the surgeon who operated on my brain told me I had 6 months to live. That was over 9 months ago. But recently an MRI found 5 more brain tumors. So I’m having whole brain radiation to treat them. I can’t use my right hand anymore and I have…
