My Brain Is Now Cancer Free

Tomorrow I get the results for the rest of me

Last Monday, I had an MRI of my brain and on Friday I met with my brain oncologist to discuss the results.

She was very pleased to tell me that my brain is now cancer free and instead of doing an MRI every 3 months, we can wait 6 months for the next one.

“Be sure to call me if you experience bad headaches or slurred speech,” she warned. “But given your results, I think you’ll be fine.”

This is a big deal. According to statistics I had looked up on brain cancer survival rates for type IV cancer (which is what I was diagnosed with), there had only been about a 1% chance I would survive 2 years, and it’s now been 2 years and 3 months.

My Mom was so happy when I told her, she just hugged me and cried.

However, an MRI was not the only test that I had done last week. I also had a PET scan of my body from the neck down to see how the cancer was progressing in the rest of my body.

I meet with my other oncologist, the one responsible for treating the rest of my cancer, tomorrow, when we can discuss the details.

However, my brain oncologist showed me the slides from the PET scan, and they were very encouraging.
