One of my paintings that shows how I felt when my brain cancer was gone

I tend towards OCD. This can be both good and bad. One positive aspect — when I work on something, I can be laser-focused until it’s done. The negative aspect — sometimes I neglect or forget to do other things because I am so absorbed in what I’m doing.

However, this trait served me well when I got cancer because I would obssessively research treatment options, supplements, and lifestyle changes. I looked up and read abstracts and articles from medical and science publications.

However, there are also bad parts of OCD. For example, I have burned off all the water when making pasta, destroying the pan and turning the pasta into an inedible burnt mess. This was after I decided to walk away for “just a minute” to work on a project.

Recently, I started to go through my old PET and MRI scans. I was curious about how my cancer had progressed over time, and I couldn’t remember all the details. Maybe the brain cancer has something to do with that? Or maybe it’s a natural product of growing older.

Whatever the cause, having access to written records helps.
