My Cousin Vinny Still Hilarious
Watched it yesterday with Mom and we both were rolling
Recently, my mother and I have watched a couple of Christmas movies, but last night we decided on a hilarious comedy from 1992 instead.
My Cousin Vinny is about two Northern college kids who are accused of murder while driving through a small Southern town. One of the kids has a cousin who recently passed the bar — after six tries. This cousin is the one the film is named after. He comes from Brooklyn to represent his cousin, bringing along his sharp and lovely fiancée.
I relate to many of the scenes in the movie since I grew up in New York City and moved to rural South Carolina after graduating college. I relate to the culture shock experienced by the New Yorkers. I remember encountering red clay and grits for the first time.
I appreciate that while this movie pokes fun at Southerners, it also pokes fun at New Yorkers.
What makes this movie a classic is the acting. The actors really fit their roles.
Ralph Macchio is perfect as the slightly innocent, naive college kid, and Mitchell Whitfield as his anxiety-prone friend. T
The casting of Fred Gwynne as the judge was brilliant. It was great to see this actor play a role besides Herman Munster.
