My family was a traditional family and it was fairly egalitarian. Most of my friends are married and if they have children it is a nuclear family though grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc., are involved if they live close by. And in about 70% of the cases, the wife probably is more in charge than the husband.

I grew up with working class immigrant parents. They didn't have much money but they provided lots of support. I'm Asian, and one reasonAsians are so successful - 90% of us grow up in traditional families. Almost all of my friends whose parents were immigrants - whether from Colombia or Japan or Jamaica - were successful people and no divorces among their parents.
