My Friends Are The Kindest People
I feel so humbled by their generosity
I love fireworks. I hadn’t been able to go last year because I’d had brain surgery. Well, that and COVID. The last time I went to a fireworks display was three years ago.
Did I say I love fireworks?
I am not able to drive right now because of brain cancer. So a friend offered to come and pick me up so I could join her and her boyfriend. Normally I would not have gone despite loving fireworks because my dog would be afraid and I wouldn’t want to leave him alone.
However, due to the cancer, I have not been able to care for my dog, so my boyfriend is caring for him. Which I hate because I miss having my dog.
But tonight it turned out to have a silver lining — I was able to go see some fireworks.
And my friends were so incredibly kind. They helped me get in and out of their vehicle, made sure that I was comfortable, and were totally fine with driving a half hour to come get me and then a half hour home. They even showed up with a glowing necklace for me to wear that matched the ones they were wearing.
They also packed yummy snacks so we could picnic while watching the fireworks.
And the show was a lot of fun.
My friends really looked after me, offering a hand whenever I needed help getting over a curb, giving me the most comfortable seat, and just making sure I was OK. I have had mobility issues since my surgery and having people who are patient and kind made a big difference.
I am so very grateful to have friends that are like family.
