My Garden Of Hope

Springtime is here. Because I live in Texas, I’ve already done my spring planting. I have strawberries a few days ago and have already harvested a few berries. I got the young plants from a nursery since it was already too late to start them from seeds, though I’ve started herbs, greens, and beans from seed.

I bought and planted young peppers, tomatoes, and squashes, but I have decided to start eggplants from seed since I couldn’t find any at the nursery and my Mom loves eggplants.

She has been doing so much to help me while I deal with cancer. Yes, I have metastatic cancer.

Back when I was in my mid-30s I got inflammatory breast cancer. That was 19 years ago and the doctors gave me 6 months to live. I’m still here, but it hasn’t always been easy. I had to have a mastectomy 6 years ago, and then, 23 months ago, I was diagnosed with brain, lung, and liver cancer.

They found a lemon sized tumor in my brain. I had surgery to remove it and since then I’ve had various rounds of radiation and chemotherapy.

After the surgery I asked my surgeon how long I had. Because he was a surgeon, he didn’t sugar coat it. He gave me 6 months.

I looked up the stats, and yes, they are pretty grim.

I decided I would beat the odds. I’ve done it before and I have faith I can do it…
