My heart aches for you that you had to witness it, and it also aches for the animals. Not as much for the workers, because there is the illusion that they have choice… but often they don’t. they need to work, after all. it’s a horrible thing they have to do, to give up their souls to feed their families.

I believe that if everyone who ate meat had to kill the animal, we’d eat a lot less meat. Some traditional cultures had respect for the animal, giving it thanks for providing its body. I can see how, once upon a time, people might have needed to eat meat. Nowadays, that’s no longer true. We can be healthy without meat, or with very small amounts.

I am more and more vegan. it started with not eating veal, then I stopped eating chicken and pork. I’m working on giving up dairy. Even if I get the dairy from a pastured cow, her baby was taken from her and so I’m indirectly subsidizing that cruelty every time I buy cream for my coffee. I’ve been trying vegan substitutes and have not found one I like so I may just need to drink my coffee black.
