Hopefully I won’t need any more

On Thursday I finished what I hope is my last round of chemotherapy. I will probably continue with the immunotherapy for a while, however. I get a scan on Monday and then meet with my oncologists later in the week to discuss further treatment options.

I was diagnosed with metastatic brain cancer in April of 2021, but that obviously was not my first battle with cancer.

When I was in my 30s, I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast disease. That is a really aggressive form of breast cancer and they told me I had 6 months to live.

I obviously overcame that but the treatments left me weak.

The cancer came back when I was 48 years old and I had to have a mastectomy. My husband left me after that, so I got to be a woman dating as a 49 year old, one-breasted cancer survivor. I got through that and started to rebuild my life.

Then the cancer came back last year. It first became apparently when I couldn’t walk. That was due to the brain tumor. It was surgically removed and they discovered I also had cancer in my lungs and liver.

I did both standard treatments like surgery, radiation, and chemo and alternatives like taking fish oil, vitamins, and, recently, fasting.
