my parents came to the US from India, back 1971, when no one in this country knew anything about Indians. I remember weird comments from other kids, discrimination from teachers... we grew up in a working class neighborhood and my parents struggled to support us. we didn't have a car until I was in junior high.

I knew about the Hmong because of the Clint Eastwood movie, but then I read more about them through more reputable sources. I have friends who are Laotian. Even East Asians like Chinese and Japanese have often tragic stories - the Japanese internment, for example, wasn't that long ago in historical terms.

I give you total respect for sharing your story.
