No one is required to have sex, either. With rights come responsibilities. Birth control is cheap and readily available. If a woman is a responsible adult, then she will take responsibility for her choices. Assuming women are simply victims infantilizes them.

I don't know what the cut-off should be at which point abortion should not be legal unless the life of the mother is in danger. However, at some point during the pregnancy, it ceases to be a fetus and becomes a baby. At that point, it also has rights. In France, this cut-off date is at 12 weeks - a woman cannot have an abortion in France after that unless her life is in danger. Other European countries allow abortion through 16 weeks.

BEFORE that point, the woman can:

1) Avoid pregnancy altogether by using a reliable form of birth control

2) If she is raped, she can get the morning after pill

3) If she gets pregnant despite precautions, she can schedule an abortion EARLY in the pregnancy.

These are all responsible choices. Waiting until the fetus has become a baby that could survive happily outside the womb is repugnant. At that point, the baby has a heart beat, feels pain, has brain waves... why is it's life of no more value than a piece of garbage?

The ancient Romans used to leave unwanted healthy babies on trash heaps. If we are aborting a baby just a few days before it would have been born - how are we different?

One thing that I find bizarre - sometimes the same people who are all for third trimester abortions are appalled at the euthanasia of stray pets. And I personally am an animal lover and all of my pets have been rescues. But to find the death of an infant more palatable than that of a dog or cat? Really?

Again, I am not anti-abortion but I AM pro-responsibility. And responsible people own their choices and make decisions that minimize the harm they may cause.
