No Sales Spiels Please

Unless you want to sell me Girl Scout cookies…

I’m not a big fan of pushing products on friends. The exception is Girl Scout cookies. If a friend of mine has a cute kid who wants to pitch Thin Mints or Samoas, sure, I’ll buy a box.

But that’s about the extent of my tolerance for people selling stuff to friends.

Which brings me to the incident that stoked my ire…

I started going to a fellowship group last spring. Once a week we’d get together to socialize, discuss Biblical concepts such as the meaning of forgiveness, and pray together.

One reason I love the group — it’s very international.

An Indian couple leads the group. There is also a couple where the wife is from Puerto Rico and the husband from El Salvador. A Korean-born woman comes as well, and also a woman who grew up in Thailand. These are the “regulars”.

There is also a woman from Mexico who I have never met. The one time she came I couldn’t make it.

The problem?

A sales presentation.

The fellowship group decided not to meet over the summer, bur resume in the fall. However, they planned a potluck in August.
