Not sure I agree with this. I've watched and really enjoyed TV shows where the main characters are black. I still remember being a little kid and watching "Fat Albert". OK, it was a cartoon, but still... plenty of white kids liked it, as well as kids like myself who are neither white nor black.

I think the real issue some people have with the reboot of "The Wonder Years" is the same issue some of us have with the reboot of Ghostbusters - it didn't seem authentic to the original. That doesn't make it a bad show, but I think it would be much better if it was something really new and fresh.

This is purely an artistic critique and as such it's subjective. I'm not the arbiter of taste. For example, I can't stand "Friends". I know a lot of people who love that show, however. I also never really got into "The Cosby Show", but I loved "Family Matters" and "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". Some shows appeal to me and others don't.

Ultimately, when I watch something, I want a good story. I loved the movie "Last Holiday" with Queen Latifah. It's one of those movies I've watched many times. Same with "Akeelah and the Bee". These movies make me feel good every time I watch them. They have a great story. At least I think so. Your mileage may vary. Again, taste is purely subjective.

Many people loved "The Titanic" but I didn't, and I thought "Terms of Endearment" was boring. This doesn't mean I'm anti-white. These were really popular movies I didn't like. I'm not the ultimate arbiter of taste, obviously.

But my point is - just because I don't like THIS particular show told from a black perspective doesn't mean anything beyond my not getting into this particular story. I mean, I'm not anti-white because I hated "Cabin Boy" - it was a lousy movie, at least from my POV. Just like I'm not pro-Mafia because I loved "The Godfather".

Similarly, I'm not pro-Mexican because I enjoyed "Ugly Betty" or pro-black because I loved "The Preacher's Wife", "The Color Purple", "The Jeffersons" and anything starring Denzel Washington or produced by Shonda Rimes. The flip side of this is that I'm not anti-black just because I didn't care for the reboot of "The Wonder Years".

Not saying that there aren't some people who don't like "The Wonder Years" 'cause they are racist just like some people don't like the reboot of "Ghostbusters" purely for sexist reasons. But plenty of people who didn't like the "Ghostbusters" reboot loved other movies with strong female leads just like plenty of people who don't like "The Wonder Years" will happily watch other shows with black protagonists. JMHO
