of course you are right. And actually, in some countries, the culture is such that trans people are much more naturally integrated.
I remember reading that among Native American tribes, women could become men and vice versa — there were examples of women who took wives for example — and this was socially acceptable given certain circumstances.
In India, there are communities of “hijra” who sing at funerals and weddings and so no, these are trans people. In Thailand as well. I don’t know much about this in Africa unfortunately, or South America, but I am sure you are right and trans people exist there.
at the same time, I would contend that if someone is starving or stuck in a war zone, survival trumps everything else.
