Paying Three Times As Much For Heating

Wow, this is insane!

I wrote about inflation earlier today and how it can hurt people on a budget. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people. But to be fair, my higher heating bills are due to other factors besides just inflation.

Last year, for the same approximate time period, I paid a third of what I’m going to have to pay this year. That really stinks.

However, Texas (where I live) has had unseasonably cold weather the last few weeks, and that is a factor. Last year, I used about half the kWh that I did this year during this timeframe. My carrier provides this information so I can compare.

However, the additional power usage only covers part of the extra bill. The rest comes down to inflation.

Which I also feel whenever I buy groceries. I am trying to stay within my weekly budget, but it seems every time I go to the store my cart is less full.

Maybe inflation really is the best weight loss plan…

In the past, to deal with energy bills, I might have adjusted the thermostat. Before my mother came to live with us, we kept it at 65 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and at 80 degrees in the summer. Then Mom came to live with us. To keep her comfortable, we started to keep the range between 70 and 78 degrees.
