Pennsylvania Just Elected A Dead Guy
I guess the zombie apocalypse is closer than we thought
Voters joke around about dead people voting. I think this meme is particularly popular in places like Chicago. However, until today, I’d never heard of living voters electing a dead person.
Apparently, this happened on election night, 2022, in Pennsylvania.
According to this article, he was elected in a landslide.
The 85-year-old Anthony “Tony” DeLuca garnered 85% of the votes cast. He was a Democrat who served twenty terms in Pennsylvania’s 32nd district.
Unfortunately, he died on October 9th due to lymphoma.
Were the people who voted for him aware he was dead? Was his landslide due partially to early voting? Are voters secretly hoping for zombies to take over the world?
Fortunately for Pennsylvanians, or maybe not, a special election will be held to replace the deceased DeLuca.
This is slightly different than what happened in Nevada in 2018. In that case, when Republican brothel owner Dennis Hof died a month before elections, under state law, county officials appointed someone to replace him. (I hope you enjoy the irony of that phrase — Republican brothel owner).
