People Need To Know You Care

It doesn’t require grand gestures

As some people may already know, I am fighting cancer. I recently had a rather depressing meeting with my oncologist who told me I would need to take chemo for the rest of my life and that the prognosis was still not good as cancer cells adapt to various chemo drugs.

I was in a funk after I got home.

Then I got a call from a friend from church.

I haven’t been in church for weeks because I have had mobility issues.

My friend offered to come visit me. That made me so happy. I told her I would make us tea, which she loves, and she offered to bring some fresh fruit, which is part of my anti-cancer diet.

It was a kindness on her part, and I appreciate it.

Since I’ve had cancer, I’ve been touched by various acts of kindness by neighbors and friends. For example, since I can no longer manage to take my trash bins to and from the curb, my neighbor’s children do it for me.

It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference to me.

The thing is, kindness comes in many varieties.
