Police stopped a suicide attempt

A man trying to jump off an overpass — how many more will there be before this is over?

Traffic was backed up today. I was out trying to run an errand. I was irritated, sure, wondering what the heck was going on.

It’s Mother’s Day. Sunday. During a pandemic. Just seemed unusual… plus the police were stopping traffic in odd patterns.

Got home after several long, miserable detours. Exhausted.

Then I find out… a man tried to commit suicide by jumping off the freeway overpass.

He was saved by police officers.

And it made me realize — I am grateful they were there.

Most of my encounters with police have been when they’ve stopped me for speeding. Once we had someone rob us and they came by and were, I thought, useless. But today… today they saved a life.

A man who maybe lost his job, or his home. A man in deep pain, in despair. Hurting and hopeless.

How many more will there be, as this pandemic continues to kill us softly?

What will our society look like when this is over? How many of us will be left?
