Railroad Strike Coming?

Deadline is approaching for a deal to be reached

US railroad workers are close to striking. They had threatened to do so earlier this year, but a “cooling off” period was imposed by the Biden administration. However, this period ends on Friday, September 16th.

Joshua Bolton, who was a former White House chief of staff said that a railway strike would have cascading effects across the country. It would greatly magnify existing supply chain issues. Currently, about 40% of the country’s goods are moved long distance via rail. According to a report by the Association of American Railroads, a strike could cost the economy $2bn a day.

Will the Biden administration be able to hammer out a deal with the unions that work in the railroad industry?
