Sin can always be forgiven. However, here’s how you know if someone is genuinely repentant:

1. They immediately ask the victim for forgiveness and ask if there is any way they can make reparation
2. They confront their own behavior and make necessary changes so that they don’t sin again.

In other words, they own what they have done. Did Savage do these things BEFORE a spotlight was shone on him??? Even if the act WAS consensual, as a youth pastor that was an overstep of his authority. He should have apologized to her right after it happened and come clean to the church. He could then have asked for a different position, one where he was not left alone with young girls while he worked through his issues. This is the much harder road, of course, but if you want to make yourself clean in the eyes of God — that’s what you have to do.
