Small Acts of Kindness Add Up

Especially if everyone does it

How hard is it to be kind?

Many people avoid acts of kindness because they think they can’t make a difference with what they can afford to give, emotionally and materially.

What people don’t realize — it doesn’t really cost that much.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Keep bottled water in your car for homeless people. Many of them don’t have regular access to pure water and they get thirsty. The cost? You can get a 24-pack of 16.9 oz. bottles for less than $5.
  • Smile at your neighbors.
  • If you see someone struggling with a heavy package, offer to help.
  • Don’t litter.
  • Recycle and re-use as much as possible.
  • Donate blood
  • Try to listen more and talk less.
  • Be kind to animals. If you see an animal in pain or danger, take the time to call for help.
  • Talk to someone different than yourself.
  • Teach an immigrant to speak English. There are groups that do this that would be happy to have you volunteer. It doesn’t require a big time commitment.
  • Tutor disadvantaged kids. Again, there are organizations that can…
