Sometimes I’m Insecure

It crops up at weird times

I have a friend that I walk with every morning during the week. We meet up at 7am. This is because we live in Texas, and neither of us cares to walk when it’s 100 degrees.

At 7 however, the weather is pleasant.

Today she texted me that she was going to have to walk later than normal.

So I texted her back that I’d walk at our usual time since I couldn’t take the heat much later, and I’d look forward to seeing her the next day.

She didn’t reply.

She normally always replies within a few minutes.

So I got worried.

Was she mad at me? Was she hurt or upset?

Around 9:15 I still hadn’t heard back from her and I decided to call her.

She sounded sorta hoarse. But she wasn’t mad. She sorta laughed at me when I asked her if she was upset.

“You’re being silly,” she told me.

I felt reassured.

Here is the thing though — why was I feeling so insecure in the first place?

But… does it even matter?

We are all human beings. We all have moments of weakness. I think part of loving ourselves is acknowledging our own foibles.
