Team USA Beats Pakistan In the Cricket World Cup
The USA delivered a stunning blow to Pakistan here in Texas just two days ago when it won the Cricket World Cup.
Originally invented in 16th century England, cricket is the world’s second most popular sport. Soccer is the first.
Cricket continues to be played in the Commonwealth countries, where it remains popular, except in Canada. It has also expanded to several other countries. The six that have participated in every world cup are:
- England
- Australia
- New Zealand
- India
- Pakistan
- Sri Lanka
Other countries that have previously competed in the World Cup include South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Bermuda, the Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland, Afghanistan, as well as many others.
In countries like the United States, cricket is still not well known outside of diaspora communities from South Asia or the Caribbean.
An indicator of this is the amount of money spent on ads. While ads during the Super Bowl cost millions for 30 seconds of air-time, the Cricket World Cup only charged about $14,000.
