to some extent though, this has always been the case when it comes to information.

for example, newspapers have always cost something. It might have only cost a nickel but once upon a time that was more than some people could afford. so what people used to do - one person bought a newspaper and then his/her friends got to read it when he/she was done.

once upon a time we actually had a vibrant and free press, with many competing sources. now it's all controlled by corporations, at least in America.

one reason I go to non-US sites for news - other countries still have decent news sources. DW (German news site) and WION (India) as well as Al Jazeera do a better job. If you want to watch soccer, according to a European friend living in America - catch it on Telemundo! :D
