Thanks for sharing. I can’t imagine how your Granny felt. My heart goes out to her.

What many people don’t realize, in Germany in early modern times (1600s), the average age for women to marry among normal people was early 20s. For men it was mid 20s. It was only among the nobility that women married at 14, because they would try to have as many heirs as possible — that is also why they hired wet nurses. But among most of the population, according to court records, women didn’t marry so young.

Yet that shifted in your Granny’s time, and a poor girl got married way too young, while I am sure the more wealthy people in the region probably waited until later to marry?
