thanks for your feedback. I don't mind you disagreeing with me, though I think you are wrong.
Why is it a stranger's responsibility to teach a random child to not abuse animals? How would I demonstrate in a 5 minute interaction the proper way to handle my cat when my cat made it clear she just wanted to be left alone? Please explain.
Also, I made it clear that the issue was not all boys but SOME boys. Since I spent a total of 30 minutes a week with a student, how was I supposed to magically teach good manners when parents could not do it in far more time?
Also, I am not a teacher. I am an artist. I made a minimal amount teaching both children and adults art. I did it because I love art and I liked sharing my knowledge.
Historically, childen were expected to have basic manners in school. Teachers taught them skills like math and reading. Physical discipline was used until recently. I'm not a big fan of it, but friends of mine experienced corporal punishment in Germany in the 1980s and in the US in the 1960s.
And yes, boys (and girls) used to be more physically active, and they used to eat more real food instead of crap. But, again, how is that a teacher's fault? If parents let their children play video games all day and feed them crap, then they are responsible.
When I was in grade school, none of the kids acted as badly as many "good" kids act nowadays. I have teacher friends who have reported being attacked, bitten, spit on, cursed at, etc. I didn't know a single child who acted this way when I was a kid.
