that is super weird. If I had a friend in that situation, I'd either buy them a brand new outfit, go with her to shop at a place she could afford like Goodwill or Salvation Army, or talk to mutual friends about pooling resources. I mean, it seems a bit much to bother a stranger for something that could easily be solved in so many other ways.
