The Blind Side is actually based on a true story and the football hero does a lot to save himself. He isn’t passive at all — he overcomes huge obstacles. And the family that adopts him is not simply giving to him — it’s obvious that he gives to them as well.

In real life, there are many instances of people helping or saving other, often in unlikely ways but situations and relationships are more complex. Schindler’s List fore example is based on a true story of a German who saves Jews. But Oskar Schindler was a more complex character, he was not a simplistic “messiah”.
