The Emotional Roller-Coaster That Is Cancer

Even if I recover, I’ll carry scars; yet I also carry hope

Picture of me before last round of chemo, when I lost all my hair again

Recently I found out that my cancer markers had gone down. Mom and myself were elated and friends were happy for me.

However, just a week prior, I was in the ER due to dehydration.

This unfortunately is my life these days.

Physically, cancer brings many challenges.

For example, both chemo and radiation do damage to the body. Surgery to remove a tumor will get out the mass but may leave stray cancer cells behind to proliferate.

Unfortunately, the “cut, burn, and poison” strategy is sometimes necessary to save your life, however.

So my body is not only dealing with the cancer, but also the consequences of the treatments I’ve needed. However, my body fights valiantly onwards.

And the thing is, there is no guarantee I will ever fully recover no matter what I do.

This can be discouraging.

I’ll be thrilled to get CAT or PET scan results and blood markers that show my cancer is shrinking only to get hit by other issues that force me into the ER.

I’ll do PT (physical therapy) and make excellent progress, only to need to take…
