Climate change is real
We need to protect the Earth. There are really no two ways about it. We need the Earth and when we don’t protect the environment, we are really hurting our own survival. So even if we are selfish b*stards who only care about ourselves — we should be motivated to care for the Earth.
For those who are religious, there are even strictures about this in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions, the Bible, and the Torah.
Therefore, finding options to fossil fuels is necessary. Moving to farming practices such as regenerative agriculture is necessary. Stopping the ongoing desecration of the oceans is necessary.
At the same time — human beings need fuel and food to survive.
