the problem is that we all come from our own frame of reference. I'm not white, I'm Asian and so sometimes in order to empathize with the problems of a white friend I might mention something my Asian mom did to try to find some common ground.
In my experience, if you go by intent (an attempt to form a connection) vs. the actual facts - then it's easier to reach a mutual understanding.
This is only for small things though. when it comes to your child's health - then people who have no experience treating conditions that are unique or far more likely in certain groups should not be treating those groups.
The fact is, when it comes to medical care - the person needs to be QUALIFIED. To dismiss a potentially serious condition instead of taking the patient seriously and treating with compassion - medical fail.
