Therapeutic Ketosis
Using different stages of fasting to fight cancer
4 min readOct 31, 2023
One way I am trying to beat my cancer is through something called therapeutic ketosis.
There are several forms of fasting. Just off the cuff:
- No food from dinner to breakfast — guess why the meal was called that? This can resemble a 12:12 fast, which means you fast for 12 hours a day.
- Intermittent fasting: this involves a daily eating window such as:
- 16:8 fasting (you skip breakfast and fast for 16 hours)
- 20:4 fasting (you fast for 20 hours and have a couple of largish meals close together
- OMAD — one meal a day.
- Alternate day fasting — you don’t eat at all for between 24 hours but have normal meals on your non-fasting day.
- Longer fasts — this can go from a couple of days to whenever you get sick of it. The most benefits accrue if you can last over 72 hours
Different forms of fasting achieve different results. If you want to lose weight, some people find all they have to do is not eat from dinner until breakfast. Others find that just skipping breakfast and eating in an 8 hour window works well for them.
