Sometimes People Suck and Dogs Deserve Better
I recently saw this video about an owner who took their perfectly healthy 10 year old corgi to the vet and asked to have the dog put down. Why? Because they wanted to make room in their house for a puppy.
Just watch the video. Look at the face of that dog. Ask yourself — how could anyone put that adorable munchkin down? What kind of heartless b*stard do you have to be, to kill a dog that looks at you like that, with that sweet smile and eyes full of trust and love?
A vet recently shared about a guy who came in recently with his girlfriend’s cat. He wanted to have the cat put down because it had loose stools. The vet informed the man that the cat had worms, for $12 she could be healed. The man told the vet to just euthanize it. Fortunately the vet called the woman who owned the cat, and she not only authorized treatment, she broke up with the lout who would have killed her pet.
Here’s the thing. When you get a pet, you take on a responsibility. That animal will become attached to you. It will love you unconditionally. It will trust you. Do you deserve that?
I think anyone who would kill their dog simply to make room for a puppy doesn’t deserve a dog. And someone who would kill a cat because of a $12 treatment fee does not deserve a cat.
Pets require love and care. If you can’t commit to looking after them for the entirety of their lives, please don’t get a pet. They deserve so much better.
