Things Changed When We Stopped Dating

Being friends is great but don’t expect me to drop everything for you

Someone I once dated called me tonight. I’m really tired so I cut him short. I wouldn’t have done that when we were dating, but we have a different relationship now. I think I hurt his feelings, but I did nothing wrong. I treated him like a friend.

I’ve remained friends with men I’ve dated a few times. In one case, the man in question ended up marrying a woman who I met at a dinner party they threw a couple of years later. I had moved back to Denver and gotten married. I gave him a call to let him know I was back in town. He invited us to a party at their house. It was a blast.

We all had a great time, so we’d meet up for dinner once in a while. We are still friends.

I’m also Facebook friends with a couple of men I’ve dated. We aren’t close but we stay in touch.

The guy I talked with tonight and I dated for several months. We enjoyed some great conversations, had some great hikes, and went to see Shakespeare in the Park. But there were issues in the relationship. He and I were not really compatible.

We broke up but remained friends. But we are not close.
