This is a powerful story. It shows us the face of pure evil, that grown men could gang up to kill a CHILD.

I have read more about the murder of Emmett Till and my thought was that Carolyn may have been forced to say what she did. When her husband first came home, she did not say anything. Apparently a black man who heard Till whistle at her mentioned it to her husband, who then confronted her. Given he was a brutal man, she may have given in to fear and fabricated more to the event. Which was wrong of her, but, at that point, her husband may have gone after Till no matter what.

Then, what made me really sad was that Till's relatives gave him up when the mob came for him. Why didn't they try to get him away? Then again, they may have been in fear for their own lives.

The thing is, there was NO ONE to look out for the life of this CHILD.

Emmett Till was a young boy. He was not familiar with the culture of the South and had no idea that he could get in trouble for whistling at a white woman. After all, he had not grown up under apartheid. And even if his cousins warned him, he was a playful child. He was probably in high spirits, goofing off.

In a normal, sane world, a child is not killed for this.

I cannot imagine what Emmett Till's mother felt, to see the body of her baby boy after what those evil men did to him. Really, there is no other word for it but evil.

The fact that the jury didn't convict...
