this is not just true in nursing home, but also when it comes to providing prenatal care to poor women, to funding prisons, and of course hospitals. Unless you have the money in the latter case to go to a good hospital, the conditions can be appallling. It used to be different before HMOs, etc.

Once upon a time many doctors had their own practice and would make house calls and spend adequate time with patients. Now, doctors are more concerned with CYA. BTW, The Affordable Care Act has only made matters worse. If you go back to healthcare in the 1950s and 1960s, things were MUCH better for most people, and even working class people often had house calls. There were also free clinics for the really poor.

Even when I was a kid - it was better. The primary care doctor my Mom took me to had her own office and she obviously loved working with children. She wasn't "nice" but she was very methodical and investigated every little thing. Plus her office was immaculate. And she didn't charge too much. My parents were working class, yet they were still able to afford to take me there.
