To me, this is just common sense. Dogs, like children, also have autonomy.

Unfortunately, dogs have to learn to fit into human society so they end up having to adjust more to us than the other way around. I think that's very gracious of them and my dogs usually obey me. But when they refuse to obey a reasonable command that they've always obeyed before... it's because there is a reason. And I don't push it. Because I respect them.
