Today I Have My Dog

It’s making me truly happy

Snowy on his blue blanket

As some of you may know, I was diagnosed with metastatic brain, lung, and liver cancer in April, 2021. Because of what the cancer did to my energy levels and mobility, I had to ask a friend to care for my dog, Snowy.

I miss him dreadfully.

However, on good days I try to have him stay with me for a few hours or overnight, depending on how I feel.

I miss him so much when he is gone and am so delighted when he is here.

With my friend, he can be a hellion. With me, he is incredibly well behaved. I think it’s because he knows this is where he needs to be.

He is very protective of me but not mean about it. He also has a goofy sense of humor. He’s learned several tricks and it’s fun to have him do those. He also loves to play.

The thing is, he’s a big dog and when I am feeling frail, he could accidentally hurt me. He also has a lot of energy and when I am feeling sick I can’t give him the exercise he needs.

So I am really grateful to my friend who cares for him.

Right now I am going through chemo and so I have a cycle — The day of and for 2–3 after, I am very tired. However, for a couple of days each week, I have the energy to have Snowy. So I’m trying to take advantage…
